Batak Toba Conventional House called the Rumah Bolon or Bolon House, rectangular and sometimes inhabited by 5 to 6 families. Sibandang island is the second largest island after Samosir island. Its charm obviously sprinkles with a clear lake viewed from two aforementioned hills and beautified by views of Lake Toba.
Aside from Samosir Island, Toba Lake also has Sibandang Island with area width of 1,194 ha. 2,551 people who count on cattle breeding, fishing and farming as their earning occupy the island. The island is also well known as the producer of mangoes. (more…)

The Batak is very spirited and self-confident people. From the first, they could defend their homeland against intrusion by outsiders, and only in the last 100 years that their lifestyle, and culture has undergone major changes under the influence of Christianity, Islam and colonialism. These developments did not follow a common pattern. In different regions and different periods, Batak would really experience the heir neighbors and foreign invasion. (more…)

Gotong hat or in general is called headdress (Batak Toba language: Talitali, modern: Tahuluk) of Simalungun typical known. Gotong is used specially when ritual events love and grief of men from batak simalungun as a sign of honor following the traditional procession. Usually, the bridge for the men also wears the hat of a marriage. (more…)

Our visiting the attractions expedition from Bukit Lawang to Lake Toba was undertaken in a minibus, which by itself was not really uncomfortable but we felt the bad road conditions (potholes and the rest.) much more strongly. The original part of the expedition led us back to Medan, crossing varied plantations of grease palms whose fruits were now being selected and transported to grease mills, and mammoth plantations of gum trees.
